Farmers are provided pledge loans against their agricultural produce. During the harvest season, the supply of agricultural produce in the market increases, and often, due to the excess supply, there is a possibility of prices falling. To prevent farmers from being forced to sell their produce at low prices during this period and to meet their financial needs, the market committee, under the guidance of the Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board, implements the agricultural produce pledge scheme using its own funds. In this department, farmers are given pledge loans against their agricultural produce after fulfilling the necessary documentation.
The cash department accepts payments for market fees, supervision fees, agricultural produce collateral, stall rent, and other miscellaneous payments at the market committee. Receipts are generated for payments received in cash, by cheque, and through net banking, and these amounts are deposited daily into the market committee's bank account. All these transactions are recorded in the cash book.
The registration of buying and selling by licensed commission agents and buyers takes place in the grain demand department at the market yard, and market fees and supervision fees are levied under this department.
In the grain department, the agricultural produce brought in by farmers is sold through an open auction system. This auction takes place in the presence of licensed buyers, commission agents, and farmers. The agricultural produce is accurately weighed by licensed weighers. The auction transaction slips are issued by the staff appointed by the market committee. Farmers receive the payment for their produce from the commission agents.
Shops in the market committee have been given on monthly rent to commission agents/traders.
